Trisha Wilson-Singer is a social service worker with 15 years of experience in the not-for-profit sector. She has a deep passion for social justice and community betterment and has a strong foundation of knowledge combined with practical experience in social work and community outreach. Her experience spans a range of areas including intimate partner violence, mental health, poverty, sexual violence, and trauma.
Her primary passion is women’s issues with a focus on combating violence against women within a feminist anti-oppressive anti-racist framework. Her strong communication and relationship-building skills, as well as her knowledge of prevalent and emergent issues in the community, have enabled her to excel in the areas of community outreach, stakeholder engagement, and advocacy. Her philosophy for social change is rooted in social justice, community-building, and activism.
Trisha’s love of research began when she was a student at Sheridan College, where she gained practical experience working as a research assistant with the Peel Committee on Sexual Assault. There she was able to continue to conduct research in the areas of sexual violence and had the unique opportunity to co-author a published article on violence and chronic illness. She has since authored numerous reports and grant proposals on the topics of domestic violence, sexual assault, poverty, and the myriad issues facing single mothers.
In addition, Trisha has developed and delivered workshops to various agencies, professionals, and community groups in the Greater Toronto area, including grant writing, domestic violence, trauma-informed care, and anti-oppression research. Her early experience as a research assistant keeps her interested in trauma-specific interventions and cutting-edge approaches in social work. Her current research interests are related to the impact of mindfulness practice on women survivors of violence.
Trisha’s passion for the community extends beyond her work. She is involved in several community initiatives, which is demonstrated through her involvement with tutoring students, being a board member of Single Moms, Fresh Start, and past experience in various non-profit organizations such as Women at the Centre, Eden Food Bank, The Heal Network, and Catholic Family Services. She enjoys volunteer work and advocacy in the community.
Trisha is a lifelong learner inspired by the abundance of opportunities available to broaden and enrich the lives of service users. She holds a Social Service Work Diploma and has additional expertise in the areas of violence against women, crisis intervention, mindfulness, CBT, Restorative Justice, and disability issues.
