Yvonne is a graduate of Sheridan College with a diploma in Social Service Worker(SSW); and currently enrolled in the Social and Community Development Worker program at Sheridan College obtaining her Bachelors degree. Yvonne grew up in a country where asking for help was a sign of weakness and a symptom of laziness. But she chose to be a part of a community that recognizes that it's ok to ask for help. Yvonne is passionate about anything that supports and vouches to be a part of a promising supportive system for the community. She wants to work with all the groups of people (women, children, young adults, the marginalized, the disabled, and the elderly) within our communities who have been through the absolute worst and feel like there's no hope. “I want to be there for them because I was once helpless, hopeless, homeless and alone”. Life has been tough for a lot of people around the globe and it continues to be so. Some of us have been blessed with the strength to be our own support system, others don't get that power. She has acquired skills in previous work/volunteer positions that make her a great asset to the community. She possesses a strong work ethic; and works well independently and collaboratively.
Yvonne believes in working from a trauma-informed lens, anti-racism and anti-oppression framework while embracing individuality. Her dream is to be a part of a support system that promises and delivers.
